New Build House in Bahrain
New build house outside Manama, with an unusual geometry designed to confound the fact that the site gets narrower away from the entrance. The entrance to the house is over a pond, with the hallway running along a double height spine wall that cuts right the way through the centre of the house. The concept is a contemporary interpretation of traditional Islamic house design, which separates more public spaces from private family spaces. Immediately inside the house is a ‘majlis’ room for more formal gatherings, with the private family living spaces deeper inside the house and accessed over internal ‘bridge’ on the righthand side of the property. The kitchen and ancillary rooms, used by the family and staff, are located on the left side of the spine wall for privacy.
