Listed Building Extension and Renovation in Berkshire
Planning permission for this glass extension to a 15th Century ‘Dower House’ was only obtained because it was contemporary design. The property had been extended several times before during the Victorian period and the planners considered that any further ‘pastiche’ extensions would further devalue the character of the original building. The glass box approach was accepted on the basis that it was transparent and the contrasting aesthetic highlighted the architectural quality of the original building rather than detracting from it.
